Today was a remarkably productive day, but this post will be relatively short, as there’s only a little to report. That little is that Bill spent that better part of the day with me meandering around Ulster County to get all the parts needed to replace the well pump. We finished the day with all but ONE PART in hand, but that part was located late in the day and purchase, but couldn’t be cut to size until tomorrow morning, so I’ll start tomorrow picking up that part – a 3′ extension of well casing.
Sadly, the one missing part was probably most critical to have on hand today. Tomorrow Bill will take the well casing extension and attempt to drill a hole for the pitless adapter. If he cannot do that with the tools he has on hand, we won’t be able to continue and I’ll have to make another trip up to complete this. Bill has access to the needed tools that he doesn’t own, but really only on weekdays, so that’s why having that part today would have been most helpful.
On the bright side, I was quoted $3,500-$5,000 for a contractor to do this work. We priced some pumps at $799 through distributors. We were able to get a pump for $379 and the total of all the additional materials came out to less than the $799 pump. All in all, this will be a huge win if we can complete this project without any additional snags.
I’m, again, eternally grateful to the neighbors that I have up here – especially Bill who is a tireless supporter of his neighbors and friends. Bill has a heart of gold, the technical know how to do almost any project, and the local contacts needed when he can’t do it himself. He’s also tireless and quite entertaining with local stories and a great sense of humor. I hope the results of my renovation allow him to take pride in his local neighborhood – that would please me greatly!
